AEC works with contracting schools and programs to establish a testing window in which to complete the ASLA, generally across two full school weeks. During that time, testing can be scheduled at the school’s convenience throughout the school day. Older students (middle and high school) are generally scheduled for 60-90-minute test periods. Upper elementary and younger students generally do better with shorter testing periods of 15-30 minutes.
All item responses are recorded to the ASLA server immediately. The system bookmarks the item test-takers end on and auto-starts on that test item at the next login.
We do not suggest that students attempt to complete the ASLA in one sitting.
Students can take the ASLA in as many sessions as needed. In general, we suggest scheduling younger or attention-challenged students for 15–30 minute sessions; older/on-level students for 45–60 minutes.
The proctoring page allows you to see the students you're working with by filtering and to display the list in various orders that make sense (Sorting).
At the top of the page, a gray box lists several ways to reduce the list of students in the table below to only those you're working with—these are "Filters." If your school or district has 50 students, you may only be working with 7 of them at the moment, so filters let you focus on those students.
Testing Group: The testing groups are based on flexible grouping, grade level (e.g., K, 1, 2, 3, 4…), educational levels (elementary, middle, high), or schools (recommended for school districts). Your school's test coordinator sets up this grouping option when initially adding students. Select one of the groups they have defined from the drop-down list.
Teacher: Search for your class list(s) by selecting the teacher's name in the drop-down menu. When updating student information, a school test coordinator also manages the entries in this list.
Assessment Status: There are three status options: Not Started (the student has yet to begin the test), Running (the student is actively taking the test), and Done (the student has completed all tasks, aka the entire assessment).
Locked? Students’ access to ASLA is locked or unlocked by checking this column.
TIP: If you do not see the updated progress on your dashboard refresh your page, and then filter your students again to monitor live progress. Alternatively, you can also re-filter the ASLA Proctor Console.
You can sort the list by clicking on the gray triangles in the column headers. Clicking the same column header again will reverse the sort order.
When you click on a gray triangle in any column header, it will change to an orange circular icon with an upward-facing arrow, indicating that that column currently sorts the list.
