ASLA offers two ways to lock the assessment so that students may not log in:
School-wide lock, accessible to STCs only
Per-student or Testing Group lock, accessible to Proctors and STCs
Note: ASLA is an internet-accessible website. The school-wide lock function prevents all students in your assessment from logging into the system. When unlocked, students can log in from any location or device.
Generally speaking, there should be clearly defined dates and times when the assessment is available to students, and at all other times, an STC should apply the school-wide lock, which might include:
Any time until the preparation, data entry, and training is complete
After hours, on days that the assessment was run
Weekends and holidays
Periods of downtime when groups are not taking the assessment
After assessments are completed
The school-wide lock will override any per-student lock applied in the proctor dashboard. If the school-wide assessment is locked, students cannot log in.
From the Administration menu of the portal, select Users & Students
Select the tab “Manage Students”
Click the Green or Orange button labeled School-Wide Lock to lock or unlock, respectively.
Check the help icon to confirm the current state if needed.
If you mistakenly lock an assessment while students are taking the assessment, they will be logged out as soon as they submit the answer to the current question. Their progress is saved, but they’ll need to log in again when access is restored.
This is a more fine-grained method of controlling access, typically administered by the proctors for the group of students they are proctoring. One or more students may have access locked directly within the proctor dashboard. The following sections explain how to lock and unlock student assessments.
From the Proctor Dashboard, click the checkbox to the left of each student whose assessment you wish to lock or unlock. You may also check the checkbox for all students in the list by selecting the checkbox in the upper left-hand corner, on the same line as the column headings.
Tip: Use the filters to narrow the list of students, e.g., to your testing group, by the teacher, etc., and then select all students in the filtered group using the checkbox in the upper left-hand corner of the list. Lock and unlock will apply to all the selected students.
Select Lock or Unlock from the blue buttons. Locked assessments have a red closed padlock icon, and unlocked have a green opened padlock icon.
